Ally Kay joined the British Bobsleigh programme ahead of the 2022/23 sliding season after impressing at summer trials.

Ally made his international debut behind Adam Baird in Lillehammer in November 2022, finishing 13th and then 15th in back-to-back Europa Cup (EC) races at the start of the season.

He had featured in 14 EC races by the end of his second season in 2023/24, having stepped up to make his World Cup debut in the 4-man discipline behind Baird in Lillehammer in January 2024.

Ally was selected in the GB2 squad for the World Championships in Winterberg in February and March 2024 but didn't feature in the competition itself.

Outside of bobsleigh, Ally works in the Civil Service and is an officer in the Army Reserves. It was through the latter that he got his first taste of bobsleigh, although it wasn’t the smoothest of starts as he broke every bone on the right side of his face and had four metal plates and pins inserted as a result of a crash in Winterberg at the 2020 Army Championships.

Ally previously competed in fencing, reaching British Championships level before the switch to bobsleigh.

ALLY IN HIS OWN WORDS...

  • Least likely to be found: getting a tan
  • Me in three: non-stop Dad jokes
  • Heroes: Nick Gleeson - how couldn't he be?
  • Random fact: avocados are a fruit, not a vegetable
  • If I wasn’t a slider: I'm a Civil Servant and in the Army Reserves
