Nicoll selected for Commonwealth Games

Adelé Nicoll has been selected to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Games just four months after heading to the Olympic Winter Games with the British Bobsleigh team.

Nicoll will compete in the shot putt in Birmingham this summer having been the reserve athlete for Mica McNeill’s squad in Beijing in February.

The 25-year-old only took up bobsleigh in 2020 and continued to pursue her athletics career in the hope of featuring at both major events this year.

She won a stunning silver medal in Sigulda in just her third bobsleigh race on the way to making the Team GB squad for the winter spectacle knowing she had already hit the qualifying mark for the Commonwealths last summer.

A multiple Welsh National Champion at both junior and senior level, Nicoll enjoyed shot putt success just a week after returning from Beijing when she won bronze at the UK Indoor Championships.

She won successive British Universities titles between 2016 and 2020 and has been a senior British Championships bronze medalist for the past three years and she travels to Birmingham with a personal best of just over 17m.

Wales have selected a squad of 126 athletes across 11 sports, with the Games taking place between July 28 and August 8 and featuring para sport events.
