Olly Butterworth joined the British Bobsleigh team in the summer of 2019, having been introduced to the sport by the military.

He made his GB debut in both the 2-man and 4-man races at the Europa Cup competition in Altenberg in December 2019, finishing sixth in the later before recording the same result a week later in Winterberg.

His World Cup debut followed at the start of January when he finished 13th in the 4-man race with Lamin Deen, Ryan Letts and Ben Simons and he was a regular in Deen's crew throughout the remainder of the season.

Olly's maiden international season ended with a World Championship appearance as he finished 20th in Altenberg alongside Deen, Simons and Tremayne Gilling.

A serving Paratrooper who has taken part in various overseas exercises since passing out in 2018, Olly joined the Parachute Regiment team before stepping up to Army colours and recording the fastest time at the Inter Services Championship in the 2018/19 season.

A former rugby player with the Scarlets and Cardiff Metropolitan University and a 400m runner at club and regional level, he also represented his uni as an archer before joining 2 Para at 19 years of age.
