Curtain comes down in Cortina
The final week of bobsleigh action at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games saw Great Britain finish fifteenth in the women’s event and seventh in the 4-man competition in Cortina.
Brad Hall and his team had enjoyed an outstanding Olympic cycle, claiming multiple Overall World Cup crystal globes, World Championship podiums, a European Championship title and more than 20 World Cup medals but they missed out on the ultimate prize after a tough two days of racing.
A superb start saw them occupy a medal place after the first run on Saturday morning but they couldn’t hold that position as two German sleds and the top Swiss team made the podium at the final event of the Games.
Hall, Leon Greenwood, Taylor Lawrence and Greg Cackett clocked 3 minutes 39.12 seconds across the four runs, finishing third in Run 1 and sixth in Run 3 but dropping down the standings in Runs 2 and 4.
They were the joint second quickest starters in the final heat and the third fastest in the third, having been the fifth and sixth best off the top on Day 1 as they clocked 4.78 seconds on every one of their runs.
Johannes Lochner added the 4-man title to his 2-man crown, with Francesco Friedrich taking silver and Michael Vogt bronze.
In the women’s race, Ashleigh Nelson and Adele Nicoll clocked a combined time of 3 minutes 51.83 seconds as they produced a fine second-day display that saw them jump up five spots from their overnight position of 20th.

Nicoll, who placed 18th in the monobob, and Nelson, who matched Montell Douglas in becoming a Summer and Winter Olympian, produced the 11th fastest times in each of the final two heats on Saturday night.
Germany celebrated another 1-2 as Laura Nolte took gold ahead of compatriot Lisa Buckwitz, with America’s Kaillie Armbruster-Humphries matching the bronze she won in the monobob.
