UK Sport Funding Announcement

The British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association will receive £10,010,000 in funding from UK Sport for the upcoming Olympic cycle.

Bobsleigh will receive £3,360,000 and skeleton £6,550,000, with both sports working closer together than ever before to utilise resource and expertise as we seek yet more success over the next four years.

Those figures represent uplifts for both sports, from £3,155,926 for bobsleigh and from £5,765,123 for skeleton from the end of the last cycle, and are part of a wider winter sport package of just over £33,000,000 covering for the 2030 Olympic quad.

The news comes after a phenomenal 2026 Olympic cycle, in which athletes from bobsleigh and skeleton regularly won medals across all major circuits and achieved unprecedented success at both World Championship and World Cup level, culminating in Olympic gold medals in both men’s and team skeleton.

Post the 2030 Games in the French Alps, UK Sport have confirmed that their funding for both sports will be through the newly created Sport Org, with the BBSA to be heavily involved in shaping how that organisation evolves over the coming years.

“We welcome today’s funding announcement from UK Sport and we look ahead to the new Olympic cycle with a renewed sense of optimism,” said BBSA Chair, Gareth Moore.

The last quad featured phenomenal success on the ice and huge organisational progress off it and this funding will allow us to target even greater achievements on the road to the French Alps in 2030. 

“We have agreed with UK Sport that, after the Alps 2030 Games, our funded Bobsleigh and Skeleton programmes will be operated by Sport Org. We will now work with UK Sport to shape and finalise the plans for that transition, which will result in a more sustainable and resilient future for British Bobsleigh and Skeleton.”
