GB2 twice make top six

Nick Gleeson and the GB2 team followed up successive 2-man gold medals with a fifth-place finish in their final North American Cup 4-man race in Whistler on Monday night.

Gleeson, Callum Dixon, Luka Williams and Jens Hullah made the wider podium in a field of 13 at the fastest track in the world as they came down in a two-run time of 1 minute 46.50 seconds.

Their start times of 4.95 seconds in each heat were bettered by just the one sled in Run 1 and two teams in Run 2 as they missed a medal by 13 hundredths of a second.

Jamaica took top spot through Shane Pitter, with Canadians Cyrus Gray and Jay Dearborn winning silver and bronze respectively.

Gleeson and his squad had earlier finished sixth in Sunday evening’s race in a time of 1 minute 46.55 seconds, 0.75 behind race winner Gray and half a second outside the medals.

Gleeson, Dixon, Williams and Hullah were the second and then third fastest starters across the two runs in their first 4-man outing of the new season.

The back-to-back 4-man events followed two 2-man races at the same track, with Gleeson and Williams winning the first of those competitions before Gleeson and Dixon shared top spot with Dearborn second time around.

The team now head back to Norway for Europa Cup action in Lillehammer, a track where Gleeson and Dixon finished sixth in the 2-man event last season.
