Para-Sport calendar confirmed
The IBSF have today confirmed the dates and venues for this season’s Para Bobsleigh World Cup and World Championship races.
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has made organising the 2020/21 campaign difficult for the international federation and has resulted in no races taking place pre-Christmas.
But the season will go ahead in the New Year, with a condensed World Cup calendar featuring five races taking place at two venues in February and March.
St Moritz in Switzerland will host the first three World Cup competitions and La Plagne in France will be the venue for races 4 and 5.
Moritz will also organise the World Championships - the pinnacle of the Para-Sport season.
“The Covid-19 pandemic is a challenge for all of us, especially for organizing committees to host events,” said IBSF President Ivo Ferriani.
It is with great pleasure to see that St. Moritz and La Plagne can host our Para Bobsleigh World Cup and World Championships despite the difficult circumstances.
“It shows the great commitment towards Para sport.”
Great Britain’s Corie Mapp will be among the leading contenders for both World Cup and World Championship honours.
The former soldier, who has also represented Great Britain at Sitting Volleyball since he was injured on active duty in Afghanistan in 2010, is the reigning European Champion and overall World Cup silver medal winner.
Having won the overall World Cup title in 2018 and twice been a World Championship medalist, the 42-year-old was among the favourites for World Championship glory last season before the showpiece event of the year was cancelled as a result of the Coronavirus restrictions.
