NAC Gold for Gleeson & Williams
The 2025/26 sliding season started in style for Great Britain as Nick Gleeson and Luka Williams won North American Cup gold in Canada on Thursday night.
Gleeson and Williams took top spot in the 2-man bobsleigh in Whistler in the first race of the new campaign, finishing 0.41 seconds clear of home favourites Jay Dearborn and Shane Ohrt on the fastest track in the world.
It marked a first medal as a pilot for Gleeson, who made the switch to the front seat after competing as a push athlete at both the PyeongChang and Beijing Olympics in 2018 and 2022 respectively.
For Williams, it was a maiden medal of his international career in his 29th competition following his debut in youth bobsleigh back in 2019.
The British pair clocked the second and third fastest starts, just one hundredth of a second off the quickest time at the top in both heats, with Gleeson driving the team to first place in each of the two runs.
South Korea’s Youngjin Suk and Suhyun Chun won bronze, 1.08 seconds behind the Brits in an 18-strong field.
Gleeson competes again at the same venue at 11pm GMT on Friday when he teams up with Callum Dixon in the same discipline.
Williams and Hullah then join Gleeson and Dixon for back-to-back 4-man races on Sunday and Monday before they head to Norway for the start of the European leg of their season in Lillehammer.
