Coltman makes it a GB medal hat-trick
British Skeleton have a second straight hat-trick of World Cup medals after Amelia Coltman won women’s bronze to add to Marcus Wyatt’s and Matt Weston’s men’s silver and gold.
Coltman came third in this afternoon’s race in Sigulda, recording her best result of the season as we move past the halfway mark of the World Cup campaign and head into the Christmas break.
Having finished 10th in the first of this week’s back-to-back races at the same venue yesterday, Coltman clocked a time of 1 minute 44.30 seconds, jumping up to the podium after Run 2 having sat fifth following the first run.
She finished three hundredths of a second ahead of Austria’s Janine Flock in fourth, six hundredths adrift of Anna Fernstaedt in second and 14 hundredths behind race winner Kim Meylemans to claim the second World Cup medal of her career after gold in PyeongChang last year.
Team mate Freya Tarbit finished sixth, recording a two-run time of 1 minute 44.38 seconds, as she bounced back from the disappointment of a tough second run in yesterday’s race when she dropped from seventh to 25th.
Tabby Stoceker, who silver in yesterday’s race, suffered similar disappointment to that experienced by Tarbit yesterday as she came down 19th in tricky conditions in Run 1. Stoecker bounced back brilliantly to set the fastest time of all in Run 2, climbing back up to 14th in a time of 1.44.94.
Weston, Wyatt and Jacob Salisbury all slide again tomorrow at 4pm GMT but Coltman, Tarbit and Stoecker are now not back in action until January 2nd when the team all compete in Winterberg, Germany.
