MATTHEW ALVAREZ

British Skeleton Athlete

About Matthew

Matthew Alvarez made his GB debut in November 2024 when he finished 11th in a Europa Cup race in Winterberg.

He went on to race six times in his first season on ice, recording top ten EC finishes in Lillehammer and Sigulda and sixth and seventh spots in North American Cup competition in Park City.

Matthew was named British Skeleton’s Breakthrough Athlete of the Year in the summer of 2025 as a result of his impressive start to his time with the team and he will be looking to kick on as he targets success on the EC, NAC and Asia Cup circuits this season.

Outside of his sporting career, Matthew has a degree in Sports and Exercise Science from the University of Bath and is now an accountancy trainee at Oakensen Chartered Accounts. He hopes to become an ICAEW Chartered Accountant prior to qualifying for the 2030 Olympic Winter Games in the French Alps.

Originally a sprinter, Matthew came through an extensive trial process with the British Skeleton programme having been spotted training on the university campus during his time in Bath.
