JACOB SALISBURY

British Skeleton Athlete

About Jacob

Jacob Salisbury joined the British Skeleton set up in the summer of 2017 after coming through the programme's UK Sport backed recruitment campaign.

A graduate in Chemistry from the University of Bath, Jacob spent his first two years at the university seeing the British Skeleton team training in the gym and wondering how he could get involved. Having seen the Discover Your Gold talent ID campaign advertised nationally, he signed up hoping that he would be given the opportunity to try the sport and went on to secure his place on the programme ahead of the 2017/18 season.

He made his international debut in November 2020, finishing a fine fifth in Europa Cup (EC) competition in Winterberg, and won his first medal that same season when he took Intercontinental Cup (ICC) silver in Igls in February 2021. He now has three EC medals, five ICC medals and two North American Cup (NAC) medals to his name, including back-to-back NAC golds in Lake Placid in March 2023.

Jacob featured on the World Cup circuit for the first time in Beijing in November 2023 when he finished 12th in Beijing. He went on to race in all eight World Cup competitions in the 2023/24 season, recording a personal best of seventh in Sigulda in February and finishing fourth in the European Championships at the same track. He ended the season ranked No17 in the world.

Having spent much of the 2024/25 season away from World Cup competition, he returns to the sport’s top circuit for the 2025/26 campaign.

A national level 100m breaststroke swimmer for Lydney, Gloucester and Coventry swimming clubs before making a change to water polo at university, Jacob also played rugby at youth level.
