GUS KODJI
British Skeleton Athlete
About Gus
Gus Kodji’s pathway into the British Skeleton programme began in late 2024 with a cold email from which he was encouraged to sign up for the Find Your Greatness talent identification campaign.
From there, Gus made it through close to 3,000 applicants to the final few selected for a confirmation ice camp in Lillehammer in October 2025. Further camps followed in Altenberg and La Plagne in February 2026, before he and the chosen talent group began training full-time in Bath this spring and summer.
Originally from the Cape Coast in Ghana, Gus currently splits his time between Bath and Liverpool, where he is studying Pharmacy at Liverpool John Moores University. He cites sports medicine, pharmacy and women’s health as particular areas of academic interest.
Intrigued by the challenge of having to pick up something with little to no experience and having to develop quickly, Gus’ initial attraction to skeleton came about after admiring the combination of speed, precision, courage and technical skill on show when watching the sport. He remembers thinking ‘these guys have lost the plot - sign me up!’
Gus’ sporting background centres around long jump and triple jump but he sites skeleton Olympic bronze medalist Laura Deas as one of his sporting heroes, both for her international achievements and as an example of how an athlete can be multidimensional and excel outside of sport.
