William Scammell represented Team GB at the Youth Olympic Winter Games in Lausanne in January 2020.

William finished 12th in the showpiece event in Switzerland, clocking the 11th fastest time in Run 1 and the 12th quickest in Run 2.

He first represented Great Britain in February 2019 when he finished 13th in the Omega Youth Series at the same St Moritz venue where he would go on to compete at the Youth Olympics.

Having initially joined the British Bobsleigh set up in 2018 after impressing in trials at the University of Bath, William placed 19th and 17th in the first two races of the 2019/20 season in Lillehammer in October, before securing his Olympic spot ahead of Luka Williams and Harry Johnston by finishing 13th and 18th in Konigssee the following month.

William has a strong background in athletics, competing at a regional and national level for the past four years and currently representing Team Bath and Team Avon.

He previously played football for a number of local teams, including Chippenham Town Youth.

William attends St Augustine’s Catholic College in Trowbridge, where he is studying for A Levels in English, Sociology and Geography. He was previously educated at Lavington School, near his home town of Devizes in Wiltshire.
