Coaching & Technical Support Assistant

Stefan Squire began a new role as Coaching and Technical Support Assistant for the British Skeleton programme in the summer of 2020.

Stefan will assist the coaching and technical teams, both in Bath and out on circuit, as he begins his transition from life as an athlete.

He previously represented Great Britain on more than 20 occasions as a slider over three seasons from 2017 to 2020.

Stefan competed on three of the four skeleton circuits during his time as an athlete, making his international debut in the Europa Cup in Lillehammer in November 2017 before going on to feature in both North American Cup and Intercontinental Cup competition.

Hi best result came in his final sliding season when he made it on to the wider podium of the sport's second-tier circuit, the ICC, with a sixth-place finish in Konigssee.

He twice placed in the top ten in Lake Placid in the same competition that season and previously finished seventh and eighth in the North American Cup in Calgary in January 2019.

Stefan's pathway into the sport came through the UK Sport Power2Podium programme in 2014 and he gained his first sliding experience the following year. A season as part of the Future Talent group followed in 2015/16, before he linked up with the squad as a whole prior to the start of the 2016/17 campaign.

His sporting background features county level swimming in Staffordshire and athletics at Bromsgrove School Sixth Form but his main love prior to skeleton was rugby union. Stefan played for Newbridge RFC in the Welsh Championship whilst studying in Cardiff, as well as Whakarewarewa RFC in New Zealand.
