Alex Cortes-Tankard joined the GB Bobsleigh set up as a brakeman, sliding with John Stanbridge during the 2020/21 season.

A serving member of the Royal Air Force for eight years, including various tours overseas, he began his bobsleigh career competing for the RAF in 2019. He made quick progress and excelled at the Inter Service Championships, achieving the award for the fastest brakeman.

Alex made his GB debut in Winterberg on the Europa Cup circuit in December 2020 and went on to race four times in total in a Covid-affected sliding season. He twice finished in the top 20 with Stanbridge, with 16th spot in a 28-strong field in Igls his standout result of the year.

Alex comes from an active sporting background, having represented the RAF and competed at county level in athletics. He also enjoys Olympic weightlifting, cycling and Crossfit.
