Alan Toward joined the British Bobsleigh team in the summer of 2018 having already excelled for his country in athletics.

As a discus thrower, Alan represented England and Great Britain, winning the English Championships on three separate occasions and finishing in the top 10 at the European Throwing Championships in Gran Canaria in 2017.

He won a hat-trick of British Universities titles and holds a personal best of 59.33m.

Alan’s first season in bobsleigh saw him secure seven top-six spots on the North America’s Cup circuit before he made his World Cup debut in Winterberg in December 2018. He went on to race at the highest level of competition in Altenberg, Konigssee, Igls and St Moritz that season and was in the GB 1 squad for the 2019 World Championships in Whistler.

He began the 2019/20 season as a key member of Brad Hall's crew but a serious injury in their second race of the year in Konigssee ended his season prematurely.

Growing up in Middleton-in-Teesdale in County Durham, Alan attended Teesdale School in Barnard Castle. He continued his studies at Gateshead College, before completing both a Bachelor's degree and Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Northumbria University, Newcastle.
