Silver for Stoecker in Sigulda

Silver for Stoecker in Sigulda

Tabby Stoecker started an action-packed week in Sigulda in style as she won World Cup silver in the women’s skeleton.

Stoecker sealed the fourth individual World Cup medal of her career in the first of two back-to-back races in Latvia by clocking a two-run time of 1 minute 44.24 seconds.

The 26-year-old was the fastest starter in both heats and led at the halfway mark, before finishing 0.34 seconds behind race winner Kim Meylemans and 0.05 seconds ahead of Janine Flock.

Having previously won gold in La Plagne and bronze in Igls in December 2023, Stoecker has now claimed two silver medals in as many races after finishing second in Lillehammer last week.

The result sees Stoceker sit third in the world rankings with four races of the seven-race World Cup to come prior to the Olympic Winter Games in Milan Cortina in February.

It takes her medal tally this season to four after she and Marcus Wyatt won team gold in both Cortina and Lillehammer.

Amelia Coltman came 11th in a time of 1 minute 44.97 seconds, while Freya Trabit had to settle for 25th after a mistake late in Run 2 saw her drop from seventh after the first run.

All three British women race again tomorrow, with Matt Weston, Marcus Wyatt and Jacob Salisbury also in action in the men’s event.

The second men’s race in Sigulda is scheduled for Saturday, when there is also women’s monobob and 2-man bobsleigh on the schedule.

Sunday then sees women’s bobsleigh and a second 2-man race bring the curtain down on the calendar year.
