Best yet for Nicoll

Adele Nicoll claimed her best monobob result of the season as she finished 12th in the fifth race of the World Cup campaign.

Nicoll beat her 13th place in Lillehammer in Race 3 last month, having been 16th in Sigulda last time out, 19th in Igls and 25th in the season opener in Cortina in November.

She was just one hundredth of a second from an even better result as home favourite Kim Kalicki pipped her to 11th in a field of 27 sleds.

Nicoll clocked a two-run time of 1 minute 58.99 seconds, going 11 hundredths of second faster in her second run than her first.

Having sat 16th at halfway after coming down in a time of 59.55 seconds off the 21st best start, Nicoll clocked 59.44 to move up four spots on her first World Cup monobob outing at Winterberg.

Germany took two of the three medals on home ice as Laura Nolte beat Canada’s Cynthia Appiah to silver, with last year’s World Cup Champion Lisa Buckwitz claiming bronze.

Nicoll competes again tomorrow at 10am in the women’s bobsleigh with Kya Placide.
