Stefan Squire officially joined the British Skeleton Talent Squad alongside Philippa Wilkinson and Hannah Stevenson in the spring of 2016.

His pathway into the sport came through the UK Sport Power2Podium programme in 2014 and he gained his first sliding experience the following year.

A season as part of the Future Talent group followed in 2015/16, before he linked up with the squad as a whole prior to the start of the 2016/17 campaign.

His sporting background features county level swimming in Staffordshire and athletics at Bromsgrove School Sixth Form but his main love prior to skeleton was rugby union. Stefan played for Newbridge RFC in the Welsh Championship whilst studying in Cardiff, as well as Whakarewarewa RFC in New Zealand.

Stefan made his international debut in Lillehammer in November 2017 when he finished 10th in the Europa Cup season opener.

He featured on three further occasions last season, placing 13th, 17th and 16th in EC races in Norway and Germany, and has again been selected to compete on the Europa Cup circuit in 2018/19.

  • Nickname: Stef
  • Most likely to be spotted: watching rugby and catching up with friends
  • Least likely to be found: with a tan
  • Me in three: competitive, passionate, modest
  • Hero: Jonny Wilkinson: he was completely fearless on the pitch and never hesitated to put his body on the line. His professionalism was something to aspire to and he worked hard on every aspect of his game, making the most of his potential
  • Random fact: I'm scared of cows. They really freak me out
  • If I wasn’t a slider: I would have gone travelling again and eventually tried to pursue a career in the RAF
