Ronnie Wells joined the British skeleton Talent programme in the summer of 2019, having previously excelled in athletics.

Ronnie’s route into the programme was a little different to most of his team-mates in that he didn’t come through the UK Sport and English Institute of Sport backed Discover Your Gold recruitment campaign.

He instead received a recommendation from his sprint coach on account of his best asset in his athletics career being his acceleration and, after meeting Head of Talent and Performance Innovation, Danny Holdcroft, he successfully came through a shortened but intensive introduction to the sport in Bath.

Ronnie recorded times of 10.37 seconds for the 100m and 6.70 seconds for the 60m during his time as a sprinter. He was a multiple time national champion & medalist in the 100m and he represented Team England on two occasions.

Prior to focusing on athletics from 2012 until 2019, Ronnie was a keen footballer and spent four years with the Bristol City Academy.

Away from sport, he worked part time as a sales negotiator in an estate agency when he wasn't training at the University of Bath.

RONNIE IN HIS OWN WORDS...

  • Nickname: Ronster, Rondog, Sonic

  • Most likely to be spotted: I'm an avid gamer so playing Call of Duty or binge watching various Netflix series
  • Least likely to be found: in the cold, unnecessarily (so Skeleton could be interesting!)
  • Me in three: fast, conscientious, spontaneous
  • Heroes: I don't have a hero or aspire to be like anyone: everyone is on their own journey and I'm just out here trying to be the best version of me!
  • Random fact: I'm a bit of a Harry Potter enthusiast - I've read through the books a total of 11 times!

  • If I wasn’t a slider: I'd continue my sprinting career and enjoy the warmer climates track & field has to offer!
