Philippa Wellington raced seven times on the Europa Cup circuit in the 2018/19 season, finishing in the top ten on three occasions.

She was ninth and tenth in Altenberg in January 2019, having been ninth in Winterberg two months earlier.

Philippa made her international debut in November 2017, racing four times that month on the Europa Cup circuit. She finished 15th and 10th in her first two races in Lillehammer, before placing 11th and eighth in Winterberg.

She officially joined the British Skeleton Talent Squad alongside Stefan Squire and Hannah Stevenson in the spring of 2016, with her journey to the world of winter sports starting with the UK Sport Power2Podium programme in 2014 after her younger sister, Maria, persuaded her to try out.

After impressing in the initial stages of the Power2Podium process, Philippa was handed her first experience on ice in 2015 and immediately fell in love with the sport.

A season as part of the Future Talent group followed in 2015/16 and she was then selected to join the Talent Squad on a permanent basis ahead of the 2016/17 season.

  • Me in three: determined, dedicated, loyal
  • Heroes: my Grandmother: a real hard worker. She’s 74 and still milking cows! I really admire her strength. Also, Jessica Ennis. I have always looked up to her as a role model in sport. Her determination and drive to succeed is inspiring
  • Random fact: I was on the TV show ‘Get Your Own Back’ when I was nine years old and it is still on YouTube!
  • If I wasn’t a slider: I would still be doing athletics but I would also be using my degree in photography to be a full-time wedding photographer
