Matthew was a serving soldier who shattered both feet after being struck by a landmine while on patrol in Afghanistan in 2008.

The former Lance Bombardier required reconstructive surgery but started skeleton in 2011 through the Help for Heroes charity and was the winner of the first-ever Para Skeleton World Cup race.

He finished second in the world rankings in 2014/15 and 2015/16 and won a silver medal at the inaugural 2016 World Championships in Park City, Utah.

Matt has three gold, eight silver and a one bronze medal in World Cup races to his name after winning a medal of each colour in three WC races in 2016/17.
