BBSA disappointed to learn of Para-Bobsleigh decision

The British Bobsleigh & Skeleton Association (BBSA) is disappointed to learn that Para Bobsleigh will not be included in the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Winter Games.

We share the disappointment and surprise of our international governing body, the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF), regarding the announcement made by the by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) on September 13th.

We add our support to the below statement made by the IBSF.

‘The IBSF has taken note of today´s announcement by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to not include Para Bobsleigh for the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Winter Games.

‘Following the discussions of the last months with the IPC this came as a big surprise as the IBSF had been assured all relevant documents had been provided and criteria were met. The IBSF will meet with the IPC´s leadership as soon as possible to further explore details of the decision taken.

IBSF President Ivo Ferriani: “The decision of the IPC comes with a big surprise. I would be lying not to admit it is very disappointing. Nevertheless, we will work with the IPC to be included for 2026 and will not give up our Parasport program. It is important now to analyse where we need to improve and what to focus on for the upcoming years. The IBSF has a full program for Para Bobsleigh for the upcoming seasons and will further support this discipline and the great athletes we have. For sure at the moment the disappointment is very big." '
